Welcome to the website of the Hartley Hill Homestead![]() Hartley Hill is located near the city of Newcastle in New South Wales, Australia. The Homestead was built in 2000 and is currently the residence of the Vaughan family. The 2 acre gardens surrounding the homestead include a variety of Australian native flora (significant native plants growing naturally on this land are Christmas Bells and Tetratheca juncea), and are a perfect habitat to many native wildlife including possums, frogs, reptiles and a large variety of birds. ![]() The gardens of Hartley Hill Homestead are open to the public each year in Spring, and all proceeds raised from the open garden are donated to the Hunter Medical Research Institute and the Hunter Wetlands Centre. Please note that all other times of the year visitors are by appointment only. ![]() The Hartley Hill Homestead is built on the original site of the Hartley Hill Colliery, which ceased operation in 1926. Features of the property include the original foundations of a building and mine head structure on the top of the hill, the early railway line easement along the southern side of the hill, and a natural spring flowing from the original mine entrance. Please browse the site and be sure to contact us if you have any enquiries. Peter and Karen Vaughan |
