Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI)

Hunter Medical Research Institute

Formed in 1998, HMRI is a partnership between the University of Newcastle, Hunter New England Health and the community. The partnership has created Australia's only regionally based, internationally competitive, health and medical research institute.

HMRI operates from seven sites, including the University of Newcastle, John Hunter Hospital, Mater Hospital, Royal Newcastle Hospital, James Fletcher, Wallsend Campus and Hunter Genetics. Researchers are working collaboratively in the key strategic research programs of:

  • Brain and Mental Health
  • Cancer
  • Mothers and Babies
  • Cardiovascular Health
  • Public Health and Health Behaviour
  • Vaccines
  • Immunity
  • Viruses
  • Asthma
  • Anorexia Nervosa

The owners of the Hartley Hill Homestead are members of the HMRI Foundation Circle and are providing a grant for a two year research program into Anorexia Nervosa. If you are interested in this research, or any other, please ask.

There are many ways in which you can support the valuable work of HMRI. If you would like more information, you can visit the website at www.hmri.net.au or phone HMRI on 02 4921 4030.
