Peregrine Falcon Update
3rd December 2005
The female Peregrine Falcon is sitting for long periods, so it appears there are eggs in the nest. We have had some severe thunderstorms and hail, but this has not dampened their determination. We have also experienced rain about every second day. The nest is very exposed, so adverse weather is a concern.
Peregrine Falcons Nesting
19th November 2005
Peregrine Falcons have taken up residence at Hartley Hill. They have taken over the nest of Australian Ravens and appear to be sitting on eggs. The male and female alternate sitting on the nest or hunting for food (birds). Fortunately the nest is easily viewed from the verandah of the house, and the falcons hunt magpies, eastern rosellas and other birds in the gardens around the house.
Open Garden 2005 Raised over $6000
12th October 2005
The open garden this year was a huge success, again raising over $6000. The money was shared, with the Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI) receiving all gate takings and sales from refreshments, and the money raised from plants sold by the Australian Plants Society was shared between the Hunter Wetlands Centre and the Hunter Region Botanic Gardens. We were pleased to have raised a similar amount to the previous year, considering the weather conditions were adverse and there were several other community activities on the same weekend. All comments about the garden were extremely favorable and visitors were very pleased to see the significant growth of the gardens over the past 12 months.

We would encourage everyone to visit the gardens again this year, to see what has changed and grown since last year. See you in October!
